Founded in 1976 as part of the first Cycle Tour, the Pedal Power Association continues to shine a spotlight on the conditions that face cyclists across the country.
Our aim is to increase cycling nationally but this won't happen without better cycling infrastructure. The PPA is tackling these challenges through its established advocacy platforms.

STAY WIDER OF THE RIDER
The organisation's national Stay Wider of the Rider campaign is increasingly well known and has the support of thousands of motorists who display our bumper stickers on their vehicles. We need to take the message into all communities and continually educate motorists about the need to share the road safely with cyclists and other vulnerable road users. The PPA's regular community activations are one way of getting the message out and include distributing high-visibility for cyclists in low-income communities.
BIKE4ALL
For us, bicycles are not just about sport, recreation and keeping fit. They are also the ideal cost-effective transport, especially for short trips to the school, shop or work. Through our Bike4All project in partnership with the Bicycle Empowerment Network (BEN) we aim to change mobility in South Africa by:
Bicycle distribution We distribute sturdy, robust bicycles for commuting, and BMX bikes for kids and teenagers. Along with a new bicycle, recipients also receive a helmet, instruction on safe cycling and mechanical support to make sure their bike remains useable and safe.
